Fall Elisalex

Do you remember Selfish Sewing Week? Did you make something? For this fall edition I made an Elisalex dress for a special occasion, but I didn’t post until now. Pictures courtesy by D’Alex Photography.

  • Pattern: Elisalex dress by ByHandLondon
  • Fabric: medium weight, some strange silk viscose cotton blend, bought from a local store
  • Difficulty: Intermediate

I have underlined and lined the dress, even if the instructions call just for a lining at the bodice. The underlining is a cotton fabric and gives enough body to the fabric to hold the shape of the skirt really well. The total lining inside gives on the other hand a very clean look. I posted some pictures of the making on Instagram.

It was my first time with the princess seams, but with some clipping and notches techniques it was not so difficult. I made a size 4/8 with no bust adjustment at all. I have modified the back closure, taking in approximately 2 cm for each side at the top of the zipper. No modifications for the skirt, except for adding pockets, as described in the Elisalex sewalong.

I finished the hem by hand, as per the lining. The dress has a very elegant  and vintage shape. I love it! And the fabric is the perfect one for this dress. This was one of this project where everything goes well and smooth. Do you know the feeling right?
